Jane- I believe that if you tried growing avocados and couldn't make it happen, it's probably a dead deal. You know what you're doing! That's too bad. So delicious!

That would be great Shirley.  How best to get that to you?

Hi Shirley. I tried a 'Little Cado' (probably the toughest of the dwarfs) in a huge pot so I could wheel it into the greenhouse in the winter. But the summer sun was just too intense for it out here and it burnt even in half-day shade. Worse, avocados love acid soil and even with acid potting soil, our water is so hard it kept neutralizing the my best efforts. Additionally, avocados tend to bloom at the time of year we get our heaviest freezes making pollination difficult. I LOVE the fruit, but the battle is just too demanding in the higher elevations of the inland chaparral. :-(

Guess I'll just have to come and visit you out your way!

All you need are a few bees to pollinate!  What a great blog.

Hi Gieo-

Great to hear from you! I love the multi-grafted trees. Great space savers.

I am planning for fruit trees in my yard.  So crazy that we can plant small trees that have so many varieties on one tree!

What fun. I love this segment. I just wish we could grow those avocados here in the higher elevations of inland CA.

Is it too cold in your area for avocados? How about your greenhouse?
